In the summer of 1994, owner Jackie Robin and her 18 month old son, Andrew drove over an hour to two local farms, River Road Produce offering organic vegetables and fresh cut flowers and Visser Greenhouse growing their own vegetables and flowers and also importing fresh fruit from Washington State and Oregon. Jackie’s husband, Mark stayed behind to set up the table and tarp for the first “Big Sky Farmer’s Market” held every Wednesday that summer. As the temperatures grew colder, the idea to bring the market inside took hold and the Hungry Moose Market opened its doors in October. The opening of this market specializing in produce and natural foods included Big Sky’s first pumpkin patch with pumpkins grown at the local farms.
