Mountain Deli Assistant Manager

The Mountain Deli Assistant Manager oversees the daily operations of their department in the absence of the Department Manager, handling security, customer service, employee, and other operational concerns. They are tasked with providing direction and guidance to other employees, and solve problems as they arise. They demonstrate a deep commitment to The Moose and their team, are tasked to do it all, quest for a better way to do it, and set a good example. They are innovators and problem solvers. They are natural leaders, motivators and have exceptional communication skills, flexibility, leadership, teamwork, and time-management skills.

OPERATIONS

  • Assume ownership of department in absence of Department Manager
  • Manage the flow of daily operations within the department, checking in with all employees to ensure goals are being met
  • Manage labor cost while on shift, sending employees home early as necessary AND ensuring the next shift is set up for success
  • Take calls from employees on shift when sick or late, communicating these issues to Department Manager and ensuring shift coverage
  • Ensure employees are using time clock and adjust as needed
  • Coordinate with Department Manager to implement strategies to increase productivity and foster growth
  • Assist with product procurement, ensuring consistency and managing pricing, cost and waste (back-up orderer)some text
    • Receive and process orders; check condition of product and invoice accuracy 
    • Ensure adequate supply of products, keeping out of stocks to a minimum
    • Keep vendors/suppliers updated on current backstock
  • Ensure adherence to Health Department regulations and company/department policies
  • Ensure department cleanliness and organization
  • Ensure quality control across all standards including but not limited to: product, food handling/serving alcohol & safety, systems, training, etc.
  • Communicate maintenance issues promptly by submitting work orders
  • Collaborate with other departments and managers to achieve company goals. 

EMPLOYEE & CUSTOMER RELATIONS 

  • Ensure the customer experience and health and well-being of the Moose Crew is top priority
  • Ensure adherence to store policies, security measures, and Health Department regulations 
  • Assist with training new employees, ensuring work is executed with excellence and efficiency 
  • Handle personnel issues in the moment including verbal warnings, ensuring documentation and reporting to the Department Manager 
  • Motivate employees, providing encouragement and feedback 
  • Identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, reporting info to Department Manager
  • Solve customer complaints or mistakes as they arise, reporting to Department Manager as necessary
  • Assist Department Manager in completing employee check-in’s and seasonal reviews

EXPERIENCE & PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Willing to obtain and maintain Manager level Food Handler Safety Certification
  • Work with accuracy, with minimal supervision and make appropriate decisions
  • Complete projects satisfactorily and efficiently 
  • Ensure timely and regular attendance 
  • Assist with cleaning, dishes, trash removal, composting, recycling, and other duties to help the team
  • Attend and participate in department and storewide meetings & trainings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work in a moderately noisy environment with multiple conversations and tasks being carried out at the same time
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, climb, kneel, stoop, crouch, reach, lift, carry
  • Ability to lift 30 – 50 lbs. often
  • Ability to withstand drastic temperature changes (cooler, walk-in freezer, hot/cold from walking outdoors, heat from kitchen, etc.)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Compensation: Starting wage of $21.00+ DOE
  • Nonexempt, Hourly Position: Assumption of 36 - 45 hours per week, depending on the season and workload
  • Health Insurance Group Plan: The Moose will pay 75% of monthly premium
